Children’s Harbor, a non-profit 501c3 whose mission it is to serve seriously ill children and their families, seeks a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to join an existing team of development professionals. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will work in collaboration with the development team to craft and execute strategic communications, marketing and deliverables in support of Children’s Harbor fundraising efforts, programs, awareness campaigns, advocacy efforts and branding. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will play a significant role in helping Children’s Harbor with our strategic plan by delivering mission-related messaging. Position will be located at Children’s Harbor Family Center in Birmingham, AL.

Communications: 70%
Manages, coordinates and develops all marketing communications using both traditional and digital media sources to promote Children’s Harbor’s vision, programs, activities and funding opportunities. Responsible for being the communications lead in injecting passion and creating inspiring collateral pieces to project Children’s Harbor’s mission. Represents Children’s Harbor when directed, with community partners.
Administrative: 30%
Project manager for selected out-sourced agencies to monitor logistical and quality control. Responsible for Children’s Harbor web site to include vision, updates and quality of content. Oversees the marketing and communication objectives to meet annual budget. Serves as contact to media and other partnering organizations, creating all media releases and oversees the production of a bi-annual publication, The Beacon, as well as monthly e-newsletter.
Supports staff, management, volunteer and donor communications by serving as the strategic marketing and communications coordinator.
Builds awareness for Children’s Harbor brand through the execution of a targeted communication plan with compelling content.
Develops and executes integrated traditional and digital media, social media and marketing plans to effectively build supporter and volunteer relationships. This includes a bi-annual printed publication as well as monthly e-newsletter.
Serves as a media contact, handling media relations efforts to build awareness through communications activities with organization partners, volunteers and general public.
Monitor trends in marketing and communications, pediatric health related issues, and not-for-profit organizations to ensure that messaging, content and collateral pieces are current.
A member of the development team that collaborates strategically to target prospective audiences. This includes injecting passion into creating inspiring print and digital correspondence for potential donors, potential pediatric health partners and others to help promote and fund Children’s Harbor mission-related activities and programs.
Promotes events, programs and activities that includes pre-event, during and post event communication plan to include social media, website, email and other media related methods.
Manages and coordinates content updates of Children’s Harbor web presence regularly through timely messaging and pertinent organization information.
Assists with securing local media sponsorships/coverage for Children’s Harbor events and programs.
Oversee and manage selected outside agencies such as printers/ad agencies contracted on behalf of Children’s Harbor and report on progress or quality control issues.
Understanding of design needs, including approval of collateral materials and ensuring alignment and adherence to Children’s Harbor branding guidelines.
Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications using annual goals and financial/budget objectives.
Position requires ability to travel for professional development, organizational or department meetings, to events and to meet with media or community groups as directed.
Participates, attends and proactively presents updates and reports at weekly/monthly staff meetings.

Job Requirements
Experience and/or educational training in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing.
Exceptional project management and organizational skills with capacity to manage details and meet deadlines in a fast pace, goal driven environment.
Ability to develop and implement communication plans and to create and place stories and promotional ideas in print, broadcast and social media platforms.
Strong business acumen, relationship building, active listening, persuasive and negotiation skills with ability to communicate with volunteers, families, organization partners and community representatives to meet mutually beneficial business and marketing objectives.
Effectively collaborates and problem solves with internal and external partners, coming up with creative solutions based on multiple expectations and needs.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills including experience in obtaining compelling stories for publications, general business correspondence, writing and editing for both print and broadcast media.
Strong computer skills including MAC, and all Microsoft Office programs used for word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets for reporting.
Experience in engaging communities via social media with metrics to support strategies such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, Pinterest, etc. . . .
Knowledge of Illustrator and/or other graphic design software applications a plus.
Knowledge of pediatric health organizations and nonprofit organizations a plus.
